Granite Club 17th Senior Open
North Bay Granite Club’s 17th annual Senior Open bonspiel kicks off Nov 15th. This bonspiel is aptly named for major sponsor Assante Wealth Management located at 101 McIntyre St West. A full field, the 32 teams will compete for four event trophies and cash prizes but the bonspiel offers much more. Fourteen teams will be visiting our City from Nov 15 -17, a stunning six teams from the Huntsville Curling Club, two from Ottawa, two from Thornhill Curling Club and four from Sudbury. While North Bay’s Granite Club teams have won the A Event many times in the past, this year’s bonspiel will be a grind. Sherry Middaugh’s team is returning for a second Assante, Teams Kluke and Meadows also could wrestle the feature event trophy from last year’s winner Bruce Munro of Sudbury.
“The Assante 101 Classic is a bonspiel for any curler 50 years old or over. Many teams return to this event year after year”, explains Laura Johnston, General Manager at NBGC. Butch Blair, Assante 101 Classic Chairperson adds,” The field is almost as strong as the committee that sets this weekend’s activities in place. The Assante was filled well before the Early Bird date, testament to the fine work of the Bonspiel Committee. To me, the Assante offers four winning ingredients: fine hospitality, great food, camaraderie, and North Bay’s fantastic ice conditions thanks to Ice Manager Bruno Bin.”
If you have never visited the North Bay Granite Club, it is open to the public and well worth a look. Located at 2624 Trout Lake Rd with curling all weekend 15-17 Nov, the Championship games are on Sunday and well worth watching.
