Granite Club to celebrate 75 years with 75 ends of Curling

Granite Club is marking their 75th Anniversary October 3rd and 4th with a weekend of events
The North Bay Granite Club is inviting all curlers to take part in a unique event to mark their 75th anniversary: 75 ends of continuous curling on October 3rd and 4th.
Granite Club General Manager Laura Johnston says the Club wanted to celebrate this once-in-a-generation milestone with a once-in-a-generation event. “The 75 continuous ends of curling was chosen to represent the 75 years of Granite Club history in North Bay,” Johnston says. “We will have curlers on the ice around the clock from 8:00 pm on Friday night until 9:00 pm Saturday night to complete the 75 ends of continuous curling.”
There will be an opening ceremony at 8:00 pm and everyone in the community is invited to come watch the first rock be thrown, enjoy a drink in the lounge and listen to some live music. Those interested in curling can sign up either individually or as a team before September 24th here: https://northbay.curling.io/en/competitions
Anyone curious about curling is encouraged to take advantage of the free curling lessons being offered during the anniversary weekend. Time slots are available Friday evening from 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm, Saturday from 9:00 am – 10:00 am then again from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm.
“Registration is required, and you need to bring clean indoor running shoes to participate on the ice, but all other equipment is provided,” Johnston says. ‘Helmets are recommended (and mandatory for those 10 and under) and we suggest warm stretchy clothing so you’re comfortable.” Interested community members can sign up here https://northbay.curling.io/en/events/25424-try-curling
The Granite Club has been a home for curling excellence for seventy-five years. From the early days of the Club’s history to hosting provincial and national championships, a Club Gala will mark this special anniversary before the opening ceremonies for the 75 ends of curling. Special guests and historical displays will showcase the Club’s history from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Friday evening.
Johnston says the Club is thankful to the City of North Bay Centennial Event Hosting Fund and all of the 75th Anniversary Committee Volunteers for helping with the event. “We hope to see you at the North Bay Granite Club for some, or all, of the events!” Visit northbaycurling.com/nbgc75th to find out more.
