Grant McGuinty
Grant passed away peacefully at his home in North Bay on January 16th. Grant was 66 years old, born 1957 and is survived by his lovely daughter Madison; sisters Karen (Sarlo) and Allyson; brothers Conway, Everett (Seungwan), and Darin. He is predeceased by his parents, Maurice McGuinty Sr and Angeline (nee Fay) McGuinty, sisters Fay (Vincent) and Colleen; brother Maurice (surviving Heather). He had many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Grant graduated Carleton University in Journalism where he worked at the Ottawa Citizen as a reporter. He then left for the Hamilton Spectator before deciding to return to school at Humber College, Funeral Director Program. He returned to North Bay where he eventually joined his brother Maurice as co-owners of McGuinty Funeral Home Ltd., where he continued to work until his retirement.
Grant was someone who loved sports, both actively and as an enthusiast. He enjoyed playing basketball and golfing, and watching all manner of sports on TV, especially with friends. He loved spending his summers at his trailer at Seguin Beach Campground where he could be found playing shuffleboard and riding his seadoo. But his pride and joy was his daughter Madison. Grant could never say enough about Madison and was comfortable with expressing his love and pride for his daughter to all. He was a highly respected member of the community and supported many families during their time of grief while co-owning McGuinty Funeral Home Ltd. He will be missed by the many friends he’d made throughout his lifetime. Our family finds solace in knowing he’s been reunited with his parents, brother and sisters.
Grant had a quick wit and a sharp sense of humour that was so uniquely his own. He has left many meaningful and happy memories for those who knew and loved him that will last their lifetimes.
As per Grant’s wishes, no formal services will be held. The McGuinty Family will be holding a private prayer service at St Mary’s Cemetery in the spring, followed by a Celebration of Life for family, cousins and friends at the Davedi Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be gratefully acknowledged by his family. Online condolences may be made at www.mcguintyfuneralhome.com
