Guido Lavalle of North Bay, Ontario passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, at the North Bay Regional Health Centre surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Angela Maria Lavalle (April 15, 2022) and his brothers Nicholas and Guiseppe Lavalle and is survived by his brother Umberto Lavalle. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Peter (Tammy) of Sudbury, Anthony (Heidi) of Barrie, Caterina (Michael) of North Bay and Giovanna (Peter) of North Bay, his grandchildren Christopher (Melissa), Nathalie (Justin), Angela (Scott), Lisa, Noah, Sarah, Lauren, Julia and Gabriella and his great-grandchildren Evah, Jacob, Hazelie and Cédric. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Guido was born on July 28,1934, in Casacalenda, Molise, Italy, a medieval village surrounded by wheat fields and olive groves. He worked hard on the family farm and would sometimes be found sitting under his favourite tree, eating a well-deserved snack. Guido left Italy at an early age to pursue his dreams, first in Buenos Aires, Argentina, then in Canada (Montréal and North Bay).
He remained a proud Italian while embracing all that Canada offered him. Guido settled in North Bay and met the love of his life, Maria. He had recently mentioned that meeting and falling in love with Maria was the best decision he ever made in his life. Together, they instilled the values of family, tradition and community to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Guido was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He took great pride in his profession as a Class A mechanic at Palangio Motors, Neddy’s B.P. and Bell Canada. He always had a great affinity for cars and enjoyed making and sharing his wine. Guido spent many, many hours tending to his very beautiful and productive gardens. An avid musician and singer, he proudly sang in the Davedi Club Choir for many years and entertained everyone with his talents as a wonderful accordion player.
The family will receive visitors at the McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay, Ontario) on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 between the hours of 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Church (299 Airport Road, North Bay, Ontario) on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 10 am. Interment will take place at the Holy Cross Cemetery. Guido’s children and extended family would like to thank Dr. Terry Rotondo and the multi-disciplinary team at the North Bay Regional Health Care Centre for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice or the North Bay Regional Health Centre would be greatly appreciated and acknowledged by the family.
