György (George) Ablaka
György (George) Ablaka passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at North Bay Serenity Hospice on Friday February 13, 2026. Born on March 23, 1942, in Szeged, Hungary. He began his career as a licensed electrician before immigrating to Canada in November of 1974, settling first in Toronto, Ontario. In 1989, he made North Bay his home, where he later became a skilled cabinet maker, eventually retiring from the trade.
George’s greatest passion, however, was helping others. His love for children led him to volunteer with the Children’s Aid Society. He first became a foster parent, a role he cherished deeply, opening his home and heart to the children placed in his care. Later, he continued his service as a volunteer driver. Children were naturally drawn to him, and he adored them just as much. His goofy sense of humor, warm laugh, and playful spirit made him unforgettable to everyone he met.
George was a devoted and loving father to his daughter, Annette Ciccarelli (Ablaka) and her husband, Mark Ciccarelli, and to his daughter, Agnes Martonosi (Ablaka). He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Istvan Martonosi. He was a proud grandfather to Nicholas Ciccarelli and to Istvan and Attila Martonosi, and a cherished great-grandfather to his great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy throughout his life.
George will be remembered most for his big heart and unwavering kindness. There was nothing he would not do for his children, family, friends, or extended family. He expressed his love not only through words but through actions, especially in the kitchen! Cooking was one of his greatest joys, and he especially loved preparing meals for his daughter every Thursday, simply to give her a night to rest.
Those who knew him will forever smile remembering his hilarious frugal nature. He would never refuse a round of bingo and his unmistakable Hungarian accent and creative English text messages often left friends and family laughing as they tried to decode what he meant, turning even ordinary conversations into cherished memories.
Above all, George will be remembered for his laughter, love, and the warmth he brought into every room. His humor, kindness, and deep love for family created a lasting legacy that will live on in all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Respecting his wishes, there will be no funeral service; a celebration of his life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
