HESSON, Betty
Peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of her family at Eastholme-Home for the Aged in Powassan Ontario-on Friday July 10, 2026, at the age of 96 years. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Stanley Joseph Slatnik and the late John Richard “Dick” Hesson. She was the beloved mother to Cindy Ingalls (Wayne) of Powassan Ontario, and Leonard Slatnik (Phyllis) of Kelowna, BC. She was the cherished grandmother to Ronan, Ashley, Ronald, Jonathan, and great-grandmother to Emma, Noah, Emmet, and Gabe. Betty is predeceased by her older brother William “Bill” Sladnick, older sister Edith Yakymow, and younger sister Elaine Strandberg, as well as her parents William Stadnicki and Olga Gladys (nee Gallant) Stadnicki.
Betty was a loving, caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She always greeted everyone she met with a smile and would help anyone in need. During her lifetime she made many lasting friendships in all the provinces she had lived in.
Betty was born on June 25th, 1930, in Lethbridge, Alberta and lived her childhood in various places in Southern Alberta. After college, she fell in love and married Stanley Slatnik in 1951. While raising her family, she lived in Calgary, Winnipeg, and Vancouver. After Stanley passed away in 1976, she fell in love again and married Dick Hesson in Vancouver in 1982.Betty opened her arms and heart to her new grown-up Stepchildren, Lori Motuzas (Brian), Bob Hesson (Barb), and Rick Hesson (Sharon), and grandchildren Lisa, Jeff, Nick, David, Dezi, and Cody and great-grandchildren Jackson, Noah, Natalee and Makenzie.
In retirement, she moved back to Calgary in 1994 and rediscovered her love of art, creating beautiful paintings, and knitting delightful stuffed toys for all to enjoy. Betty was widowed again in 2000, but she stayed in Calgary and reunited with her loving sister, Edith “Edie”, niece Michele, great nieces Angela and Khandis and great-great niece Arianna.
In 2022, she moved for the last time from Calgary, Alberta to Powassan Ontario to be closer to her daughters, Cindy, and family where she spent her time enjoying the love of her family and the peacefulness of rural Ontario.
With great appreciation, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful PSW’s, nurses, and staff who helped care for her at home and at Eastholme in the previous months and her final days.
So dearly loved and missed but never forgotten.
