Honouring 9/11 victims at local event

22 Wing North Bay is hosting its fifth annual 9/11 Ruck March on Thursday.

Officials are commemorating those who lost their lives in the terror attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001.

Organized by United States Air Force members stationed locally, the ruck march will open with a ceremony at 8 am at the 22 Wing Athletic Field.

Along with the playing of both the Canadian and American national anthems, the names of those who died will be read, there will be a moment of silence and more.

The 9/11 Memorial and Museum says 2,977 people from 90 nations were killed in the attacks.

Commercial airlines were hijacked and crashed into each tower of the World Trade Centre in New York, the Pentagon in in Arlington, Virginia while passengers on the fourth plane, Flight 93, fought back.

It crashed into an empty field in western Pennsylvania about 20 minutes by air from Washington, D.C.
