Honouring Léo Malette

By Richard Coffin

The Nipissing West OPP boardroom now has a name.

It has been named the Léo Malette Boardroom to recognize what officials say is his remarkable leadership and inspiring dedication, leaving a mark on both the community and local policing.

Malette, who was born and raised in Cache Bay dedicated over 40 years to public service.

That includes councillor and mayor of Cache Bay before amalgamation in 1999, then Ward 2 councillor in West Nipissing from 2003 to 2022.

Along with volunteer initiatives with his wife Rollande, Mallete also chaired the boards at Au Château and the West Nipissing General Hospital.

“Léo has been an important advocate for our community, known for his thoughtful leadership and his passion for making West Nipissing a better place for all of us,” says Mayor Kathleen Thorne Rochon. “By naming this room in his honour, we ensure that his contributions will never be forgotten and that future generations will understand the importance of community engagement and leadership.”

The boardroom naming ceremony took place on March 19.
