Nipissing West OPP being outfitted with body-worn cameras
Smile, you’re on body camera.
That’s if you’re interacting with Nipissing West OPP, as their officers are being outfitted with body-worn cameras (BWC).
Ontario Provincial Police say the technology improves the quality of evidence, enhances accountability, transparency, and ultimately supports the safety of both the public and officers in the communities we serve.
Police say the cameras are being rolled out to Nipissing West OPP and other northeast region detachments after the success of In Car Cameras, which incorporated an Automated Licence Plate Recognition system.
“The BWCs are worn on the front of the officer’s vest and are clearly visible to anyone an officer may be interacting with,” states a release from the OPP.
They add a visible green ring with flashing lights will be displayed when in standby mode, which will turn flashing red once the cameras start recording.
