Iroquois Falls over Powassan

Iroquois Falls over Powassan

The Iroquois Falls Storm saw Max Jugnauth tally twice, including picking up the game-winner, in a 3-2 triumph over the Powassan Voodoos Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Iroquois Falls opened the scoring two and a half minutes in when Jugnauth found himself free in front and after a couple of cracks in close, lifted one over the pad and in past a downed Powassan netminder Austin Seibel.

Stay that way into the middle frame, the Storm extended their lead when Emrick Paradis took a play to the slot and roofed his first NOJHL goal, high glove side.

Getting one back late in the second period, the Voodoos’ Caleb Dawson clicked while his club was shorthanded as he darted up ice on a partial break and snapped a shot that got through the legs of goalkeeper Maverick Fletcher.

Heading to the third, Jugnauth got the eventual difference maker at 6:48 as he snagged a rebound and guided a backhand by Seibel.

Powassan drew closer with under two minutes remaining in regulation on a Caden Dubreuil effort as he raced in on a breakaway wired his attempt into the right corner.

The home side then got their goalie out for another skater to try and tie it and sent it to overtime, but Iroquois Falls did their part the rest of the way to earn the victory.

With the win, the Storm improved to 11-17-1-1 and in the narrow defeat, the Voodoos slipped to 14-11-0-3.
