Joyce “May” Kelly

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce May Kelly, who was known and lovingly called May, on Thursday, September 25, 2025, just days before her 83rd birthday.
Born on September 28, 1942, May’s life journey took her across Canada and beyond—living in New Liskeard, North Bay, Alberta, Quebec, Manitoba, and Minnesota, —before returning home to North Bay.
May has been joyfully welcomed home by her beloved husband Roger (Pete) Kelly, her cherished daughter Theresa Ann Church (née Kelly), and her dear brother Bobby Lelièvre.
She will be forever loved and deeply missed by her son Michael Patrick Kelly, her son-in-law Jay Church, and the lights of her life—her grandchildren Devin Church (Becky), Sarah Church, Brigitte Kelly (Eden), and Liane Kelly (Eric), along with her treasured great-grandson Logan Church. May also leaves behind her much-loved extended families — the Lelièvre, McLaren, and McDonald families. She will be fondly held in the hearts of many friends at her church, and especially by her sewing friends whose companionship brought her such joy.
May lived a full and remarkable life. She proudly served as a clerk in the Department of Defence, and later devoted herself to her passions- sewing, reading, baking, music, and community. An avid and talented sewer, she poured love into every stitch, and her kitchen was always filled with the warmth of her baking. Her beautiful soprano voice graced the choir she loved to sing with, lifting hearts and spirits with every note. Known for her quick smile, infectious laugh, and unfailing kindness, May touched the hearts of everyone she met.
Her legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on in her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice, an organization that provided May excellent care and comfort with great compassion.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, October 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Home, followed immediately by a Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
