Keller and Conservatives win student vote

Keller and Conservatives win student vote

By Richard Coffin

The political landscape would’ve been much different if the Student Vote Canada results rang true.

Nationally, the Conservatives would have a minority government, with 162 seats, including Nipissing-Timiskaming.

Nearly 2,200 students at 27 schools in our area took part in the student vote.

Conservative Garry Keller received 37% support with the Liberal’s Pauline Rochefort, the real election’s winner, receiving 25% of the vote.

Officials say after learning about democracy and elections, researching the parties and platforms, and debating the future of the country, students cast their ballots for the official candidates running in their school’s electoral district.

Nationally, more than 925,000 elementary, intermediate and high school students at more than 6,000 schools in all 343 ridings participated.
