Kev’s Kids Radio Marathon Raises over $105,000

By Richard Coffin

Tens of thousands of dollars have once again been raised for area children and youth with special needs.

Kev’s Kids Redpath Rotary4Kids radio marathon wrapped up Friday morning with Country 90.5 FM’s Kevin Oschefski completing his 29-hour broadcast and unveiling the fundraising total.

“$105,000,” he announced. “North Bay and surrounding area, you did it!”

Money continues to come in after the broadcast and goes towards the purchase of assistive devices, programming, uninsured medical costs and more.

17-year-old Dylan Rivenbark, a Grade 11 student at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School, was this year’s Rotary4Kids ambassador.

“Thank you to our community for showing that people still have hearts they’re willing to sacrifice for a good cause, to help people who might need that help,” he says. “Just a nod in their direction might make so much of a difference for someone, to acknowledge them.”

Oschefski says the goal is always to raise as much money as they can to help kids.

“Our world is a little bit upside down right now and we didn’t know how they were going to respond, but they did.”

Jeff Hobbs, Redpath Rotary4Kids Chair, agrees.

“[With] the current political climate, people just don’t know and that causes a little bit of anxiety,” he says. “I’m so proud of North Bay.  Your support is so great.”

Rotary officials say prior to this year’s event, which was the 23rd, over $1.6 million has been raised since it started.

The committee also provides approximately $30,000 in funding on an annual basis to the Nipissing Association for Disabled Youth.
