Kicker Tyler Mullan wins Mitchell-Avery Award

Queen's University kicker Tyler Mullan has been named this year’s winner of the Mitchell-Avery for his contribution and success in football.

Mullan began his kicking career at Widdifield Secondary School before transferring to St. Joseph- Scollard Hall in Grade 10. He was the Junior and Senior Bears’ kicker until he graduated in the spring of 2022.

Mullan made his debut with Queen's against U of T, kicking 4 field goals and 5 extra points as Queen's defeated Toronto 47-25. Mullan would finish his rookie season with a perfect 17 for 17 on field goal attempts and 32 for 32 in point after attempts. Mullan finished 3 rd in scoring in USports Football with 83 points.

Following Mullan’s 2022 season, he was named an OUA All-Star, named to the OUA All-Rookie Team, and named First Team All-Canadian. Queen’s Athletics also awarded Mullan with the Alfie Pierce Trophy, which is awarded to the Varsity Rookie Male Athlete of the Year.

In 2023-24 Mullan hit 11 field goals in 14 attempts, with his longest at 41 yards and in 2025, he hit 10 of 13 field goals with his longest at 45 yards.

This past season, Mullan continued to shine as one of the top kickers in Canadian University Football. Mullan was 2 for 2 kicking field goals and 4 for 4 on converts helping Queen's defeat Windsor to reach the Yates Cup. In the 117 th Yates Cup, the Queen's Gaels defeated the number 1-ranked Laurier Golden Hawks 30-27. Mullan contributed with 3 field goals from 35, 37 and 46 yards, as well as 3 converts, good for 12 points.

Overall Mullan finished his 4th season with Queen's 25/31 in field goals and 47/47 in extra points, good for the second-highest percentage in the OUA and USports (Nationally).

His 85 regular-season point total was third highest in the OUA and USports.

Also, his 85 points scored were the fourth highest in school history. His 297 career regular-season points put him second all-time in Queen’s history, just 37 points shy of the school record.

In his 4 years at Queen's, Mullan kicked 54/63 field goals for 86% and was a perfect 126/126 in conversion attempts during regular season play.

Mullan will return to Queen's in the fall with an eye on breaking the school record.
