Know the Signs of Human Trafficking
Help Stop Human Trafficking: Human trafficking happens in communities of all sizes, including ours. It involves exploiting someone through force, fraud, coercion, or manipulation. It can take different forms:
Sex Trafficking : When someone is exploited for sexual purposes. This may involve grooming, a controlling partner, being moved between hotels or cities, or being advertised online.
Labour Trafficking: When someone is forced or pressured to work under unfair or abusive conditions. This can include long hours with little or no pay, unsafe work environments, debt bondage, or an employer controlling their identification documents.
Warning signs may include: A person who seems fearful, anxious, or controlled by another person. Someone else speaking for them or holding their ID. Inability to freely leave their job or residence. Sudden unexplained gifts or a significantly older, controlling partner (especially involving youth) Signs of physical abuse, neglect, or isolation Being coached on what to say It often begins with manipulation, promises of love, employment, or opportunity. If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts.
