Lakeshore speed limit reduction on Council’s agenda

Lakeshore speed limit reduction on Council’s agenda

Legally driving 60 km/h on Lakeshore Drive could soon be a thing of the past.

A staff report on traffic bylaw changes coming to council next week includes a recommendation to reduce the 60 zones to 50 km/h.

An analysis says the main factor influencing the recommended speed limit is the number of private driveways on Lakeshore Drive.

The 40 km/h Community Safety Zone by the Omischl Sports Complex and Sunset Park Public School would remain.

With upgrades coming to the Lakeshore and Booth intersection, including traffic lights, the same report calls for it to be listed in the bylaw among those intersections with traffic control signals.
