LARIVIERE, Irene

LARIVIERE, Irene

Peacefully passed away at Cassellholme-Home for the Aged-on Tuesday March 25, 2025, at the age of 95 years. Irene was the loving mother to Yollande Maxwell (Gary), Rheal Mantha (Debra), Fernande Mantha (predeceased), Lorraine Mantha (late Robert), Juliet Normand (Roger), Suzanne Kukucska (late George), and Wayne Collins (Paula). She was the cherished grandmother to Timothy, Richard, Stacey, Shannon, Jason, Sarah, George, Keith, MacKenzie, Joshua and great grandmother to Brandon, Owen, Shawn, Kyle, Vladymir, Mason, Finn, Nathaniel, Bailey, Abigail, Nyle, Clayton, Kaitlin, Kristen, Audrey, Morgan, Arlo, Carla, and Cade and many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in the farming community of Hudson Township in the New Liskeard area, Irene’s early life instilled in her the values of hard work and a deep appreciation for nature. A classy and elegant lady, Irene had a strong will and a hint of tenacity that helped her overcome significant adversity in her life. A special thank-you to her brother Edgar and his children for all their support navigating this adversity, especially Lorraine and Leo.  She was known for her favorite sayings, like "we'll see" and "because I said so," which brought smiles to those who knew her well. She was also a talented cook, whose meals were a source of comfort and love for her family, and she was devoted to her cherished pets, including Pepsi, Max, Whiskers, and others who filled her life with joy. In her quiet moments, Irene could often be found knitting, enjoying her favorite TV programs and reading Danielle Steele novels, or solving word searches with focused delight.

One of her favorite songs, Roar by Katy Perry, captured Irene's quiet strength and tempered spirit—qualities that inspired those who were lucky to know her.

She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and the caring staff on Willow Street at Cassellholme, whose kindness touched her final years.

Irene is predeceased by her husband Leo Mantha, her daughter Fernande Mantha, her brother Edgar Lariviere (Louisa), sister Patricia Chouinard (Soloman), and her parents Auguste Lariviere and Laura (nee Lamarre). As per Irene’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a service will be announced at a later date.

If desired, donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Canadian Cancer Society, the Nipissing Transition House, Cassellholme, and Eau Claire Evangelical Missionary Church would be gratefully acknowledged by her family.
