Laurent (Larry) Maurice Lavigne

Laurent (Larry) Maurice Lavigne

In Loving Memory of Laurent (Larry) Maurice Lavigne

                       Dec. 1st, 1953- Dec 27th, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father and brother, Laurent (Larry) Lavigne, who left us on Dec 27th, after a courageous and very long battle with heart disease.

A cherished son and the first born of predeceased parents Yolande Pitre (Bédard) and Maurice Lavigne. Loving husband of Wendy (Smith) and father of Brent, Terry, Jesse and Corey.

Very much-loved brother of Maurice, Pat, Mike, Toni and Liane, who will carry many memories (and more than a few good laughs!) of their big brother in their hearts.

Brother-in-law to Dan, Denis, Roseanne, Cathy, Terry, Jeff, Sandra and Diane.

He is also survived by stepfather Roger Pitre, his special Aunties and Uncles and many nieces and nephews who loved him very much.

Larry was happiest in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, something he shared with his dad and Pépère when younger and later, with Roger and his best friends and buddies, his brothers.

Even when he was very sick in the hospital, he craved the fresh air and was happiest when he could be taken outside. His last big road trip was in a transport vehicle from Ottawa to North Bay, and he was so happy when we drove past the road leading into Brent (Algonquin Park) where he spent many memorable years camping and fishing.

After a long battle with heart disease, Larry is finally at peace. Behind his quiet demeanour lay a strength and resilience that was second to none. He fought with such courage and reached many milestones this year despite expectation; to get home to North Bay from the Heart Institute, to celebrate his 71st birthday, and to see Christmas one last time.

Though he is gone, he will be forever missed and always in our hearts. Our only comfort here on earth is that he is now reunited with Mom and Dad, Pépère and Mémère.

Rest easy now Larry. It’s time for you to be free, pull out the fishing rods and have a heck of a Lavigne family reunion.

Thank You

We wish to express our sincere appreciation to the staff and doctors at the Ottawa Heart institute for the many years of exceptional care and support they gave Larry and our family. They saved his life more times than we can count.

Thank you as well to the care team at Ontario Health & Home for their in-home support, the Nipissing Serenity Hospice and to the Emergency Department nursing staff at NBRHC during his last few admissions.
