Leslie MacLeod ‘Mac’ Allen
Leslie MacLeod ‘Mac’ Allen
The world has lost a good man. On March 13, 2024, Mac Allen passed away at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice with his loving wife and family by his side.
Mac will be forever missed by his wife Dianne (nee Bailey); daughters Leigh (Greg Fabi), Christie (Greg Jamieson), and Jodi (Greg Janveau); his grandsons Marcus, Mitchell, and Morgan Fabi; and his brothers Ken (Jean) and Rob (Sue) Allen. In 1965, Mac’s father married Bernadette Ringler and he gained an extended family including stepsister, Isabel (Lloyd) both predeceased, stepbrothers George (Cheryl), Terry (Lynn predeceased), and Jeff (Kate) Ringler.
Mac lost both of his parents at an early age. His mother, Jean, passed away in 1959 when Mac was eleven, while the family was living in Camp Borden. Because Mac’s father, Cpl. Leslie Allen was in the Air Force, Mac and his brother’s moved to North Bay where they were lovingly cared for by his maternal Scottish grandparents, George and Mary Macdonald. In 1971, when Mac was twenty-three, his father passed away.
Having lived in North Bay and Callander most of his life, Mac was well known in the community. Professionally, Mac had a 44-year career in real estate and was the Political Affairs Representative and served two-terms as President of the North Bay Real Estate Board. He was a long-time member of the ACT. He also gained many friends through his involvement in local sports including hockey, baseball, football, billiards, curling, and golf. He was a proud coach of the Chippewa hockey team in the early 90s.
Mac loved people and people loved him right back. He cherished time spent with family and friends and the simple things like having a coffee on the porch with a neighbour, fishing trips to Temagami or sitting with his grandsons in his favourite chair.
For over a decade, Mac persevered in his courageous fight against cancer. He never gave up hope, never complained and kept his positive spirit until his final days. Our lives will not be the same without him.
Mac’s family will receive friends at the Martyn Funeral Home on Monday, March 18th, 2024 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm.
