Light It Up
Dozens of locations in North Bay will 'Light It Up' for National Disability Employment Awareness Month on Thursday.
They’re shining purple and blue lights on disability-inclusive hiring.
"There's obstacles in a lot of avenues of life," says Ashleigh Riley, Program Manager Skills Development & Employment with the March of Dimes North Bay. "If we can help individuals to remove those barriers and obstacles, they can very much be valuable members in working communities and workplaces in North Bay and nationally as well."
Our radio station is one of hundreds of locations in over 180 communities across Canada taking part in the fifth annual campaign.
The CN Tower, Niagara Falls and Montreal’s Olympic Stadium are a few of the famous landmarks that are involved.
Riley says their North Bay office, at 222 McIntyre Street West, is here to help people with whatever barrier they are living with.
"It can be self-identified, you can have a diagnosis of any sort," she says. "We're here to help you prepare, plan, engage, and get that motivation to find meaningful employment and retain that employment."
The Ontario Disability Employment Network is encouraging people in communities participating in 'Light It Up! For NDEAM' to photograph illuminated structures and post images on social media.
