Local Cities Receive Boost in Funding

$18.5 Million for Area Municipalities. An increase of over $2 million

The Ontariogovernment is continuing to support Nipissing’s municipalities by increasing the investment through the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) by $2 million for the 2025 year. The total allocation for Nipissing municipalities is $18.5 million.

“The Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund program primarily supports northern and rural municipalities and today’s additional investment will provide financial relief for Nipissing’s municipalities to support their priorities and specific needs,” said MPP Vic Fedeli.

As announced in yesterday’s 2024 Fall Economic Statement 2024 Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review - Building Ontario For You, the Ontario government is increasing the OMPF grant to municipalities. Funding will increase by $100 million over the next two years, bringing the total funding provided through this program to $600 million by 2026. In 2025, municipalities will benefit from an immediate $50 million increase to the OMPF.

"This increase of more than $1.3 million over last year’s funding allocation is a welcome boost for North Bay, giving us the certainty we need to plan responsibly as we prepare for the 2025 budget process,” said Deputy Mayor Maggie Horsfield. “The Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund is crucial for ensuring we can continue to provide essential programs and services. We’re appreciative for the province’s commitment to North Bay.”

“The Town of Mattawa is no different than others, where all financial help from the province is welcomed and much appreciated. Thank you on behalf of our constituents. The increase in the Ontario Municipal Partnership Funding over the next two years will certainly provide help in addressing municipal fiscal sustainability.” - Mayor Raymond A. Bélanger, Town of Mattawa.
