Local officials conducting homelessness count

A 24-hour homelessness count is underway across the district.

The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) and its partners are undertaking the initiative until 8 am Thursday.

Officials say the Point in Time (PiT) Count provides an estimate of the number of people experiencing homelessness within a defined area during a single 24-hour period.

They say the goal is to get a comprehensive, one-night snapshot of homelessness within the community, encompassing both sheltered and unsheltered individuals.

“This 24-hour count helps us better understand the scope of homelessness across Nipissing District,” says Mark King, DNSSAB Chair. “Each count brings us closer to understanding the local need, helping us plan our community’s response and direct supports where they can make the most difference for those without stable housing.”

DNSSAB says results of the PiT Count will contribute to the work being done toward preventing and reducing homelessness throughout the district.
