Lumberjacks complete sweep of Voodoos

Lumberjacks complete sweep of Voodoos following OT victory
A Tyler Patterson power play goal 5:19 into overtime helped the Hearst Lumberjacks complete a comeback and edge the Powassan Voodoos 4-3 in Game 4 of their Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League quarter-final Tuesday at the Powassan Sportsplex.
The victory sees Hearst sweep the best-of-seven set 4-0.

Knowing they had to win to keep their season alive, the Voodoos came out flying and struck twice on the night’s initial three and a half minutes.
Daniil Viscu started the scoring by benefitting from an early turnover down low that found its way into the slot and hammering it past Lumberjacks’ starter Alexandre Boivin at 2:59.
Powassan then potted another moments later off the stick of Cayden Kowal, who darted down the ice on a two-on-one and ripped in his fifth of the series, with a nice shot from the right circle.
Cutting into the deficit during a man advantage opportunity in the second period, Hearst’s Henry Ouellet beat goalkeeper Austin Seibel with a sharp wrister after spinning and wheeling out from the side boards.

Matching that with a man advantage effort of their own at 6:47, Voodoos’ captain Jackson Smith fired one through a crowd from distance as his rising point attempt sailed past Boivin.
A third extra-man marker in the session saw Liam Boswell make it a 3-2 game as the Lumberjacks forward found the range from the right side after taking a backhand pass from Adam Shillinglaw.
Tying it up deep in the stanza, William Pâquet used a defender as a screen and whipped a shot over the shoulder of Seibel.
With neither team able to break the tie in the third, the clubs headed to OT to determine a winner.
Up a skater in extra time, the Lumberjacks completed the comeback and ended the series as Mathieu Comeau sizzled a crisp cross-ice feed over to Patterson in the right circle, who quickly collected it and whipped it upstairs to wrap things up in dramatic fashion.
