MacSween, Moira

MacSween, Moira

Dedicated Leaf’s fan, lover of animals and the outdoors, Moira MacSween passed away at her apartment on Nov 14, 2024 at the age of 67. Moira lived a large life and was always up for an adventure.

In her early years she was an active skier and member of the Laurentian Ski patrol until a back injury and the ensuing body cast put that downhill dream aside. She moved onto studying Recreation Leadership at Canadore College and played goalie for the Panthers women’s hockey team. During this time, Moira worked for the North Bay Figure Skating Club playing music for practises, test days and competitions including the 1986 National Championships at Memorial Gardens.

Many happy days were spent on her boat, learning the ins and outs of bass fishing on Trout and Turtle lakes. Time spent outside fueled a passion for outdoor photography with many pictures taken during hikes in Laurier Woods.

Moira also made the news as the first female roofer in North Bay. This was followed by a return to Canadore where she studied carpentry and cabinetmaking. A basement shop was created where she could continue to indulge her creative side.

Moira was a longtime employee of Seymour windows where she developed many friendships. She was instrumental in creating the employee’s union and was a dedicated shop steward.

Moira is survived by her brother Peter, his wife Lisa and their children Ella and Callum. She is missed by her aunts Doris and Dorothy, her cousins Lorne (Louise), Harry (Francine), Jessie (Carson), Betty, Peter (Laurie) and their respective families. Predeceased by her father John and her beloved mother Joyce.

The family would like to thank Moira’s friends Amanda and Grace for handling her affairs. We would also be amiss if we didn’t acknowledge Judy and Nancy for their friendship with Moira over the years.

Moira had a big heart and we would like to honour her with a celebration of life in the spring of 2025. Smiles, fond memories and laughs are required.  Safe journey home big sister, you can finally play the pipes.
