Majority of Operation Impact related charges in northeast were for speeding

Preliminary results show Ontario Provincial Police across the Northeast Region laid over 840 charges over the Thanksgiving long weekend as a part of Operation Impact.

Police say the national initiative focuses on stopping dangerous driving before it leads to tragedy.

The OPP says more than half of the weekend charges, nearly 490, were for speeding.

Others included stunt driving, insurance offences, impaired and distracted driving, along with seatbelt infractions.
