Man Arrested for Breach of Probation, Resisting Arrest, and Firearm Offence
North Bay man arrested after he brandished a suspected firearm, resisted arrest, and was found in breach of probation with drugs and an airsoft-style handgun.
On September 22, 2025, at approximately 1:40 p.m., North Bay Police Service (NBPS) responded to a report of an unwanted person in the downtown area. During an altercation, the accused brandished a suspected firearm before fleeing the scene.
NBPS located the accused a short time later and, after attempts to resist arrest and failing to comply with lawful commands, NBPS members were able to safely take him into custody.
The accused, Steven Forbes, 47-year-old, male, of North Bay, has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Methamphetamine
- Resist a Peace Officer
- Fail to Comply with Release Order
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of:
- 0.3 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine
- An airsoft-style handgun
“This was outstanding work by our patrol officers, who responded quickly, took control of an escalating situation, and ensured it was resolved safely. We are committed to keeping our downtown safe, and this arrest demonstrates that our officers are present and will not tolerate this type of activity,” said Insp. McFarlane. “While it is encouraging to see our community stand up against crime, we urge anyone who encounters a potentially unsafe or volatile situation to call 911. Your safety is our top priority, and our officers are trained and equipped to respond.”
The accused was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
