Maria Caliciuri
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear sister, Maria Caliciuri (nee Scarfone) at the North Bay Regional Health Centre, on October 7, 2025, in her 92nd year, surrounded by her loving family.
Maria was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, Vincenzo Caliciuri. She was predeceased by her parents, Giuseppe & Michelina (nee Morabito) Scarfone. She was the much-loved sister to the late Antoinetta D’Agostino (Salvatore surviving), late Anna Scarfone (late Santo ), late Santo (late Melinda Scaglione), late Virginia Repaci (Domenico surviving), Francesca Morabito (late Giovanni), Teresa Fucile (Tony), Salvatore (Patricia Burton). Loving sister-in-law to the late Carmosina Scarfone (late Giuseppe), late Antonio Caliciuri (Romana Scarfone, surviving), late Giuseppe Caliciuri (late Maria Scarfone).
Maria was born in S. Stefano in Aspromonte, Italia and immigrated to Canada with her husband in 1958 building a beautiful life for themselves. Maria was employed at North Bay’s St. Joseph’s Hospital until her retirement. Where she took great pride in her work in the Dietary Department. She was devoted to her church, first with St. Rita’s Church, and a CWL member, and then with St. Peter’s Church. She loved to grow her own vegetables and beautiful flowers that surrounded her home. Maria was adored by her 30 nieces and nephews and their spouses. It was her greatest joy to be surrounded by her family. She made sure to have the coffee, fruit and desserts ready for the anticipated visits. No one would leave hungry, even if it was just a small bowl of grapes. Coffee day – Wednesday, was one of the highlights of the week. She was the protector, independent, and helped all that were in need. She always looked for something to celebrate – and loved to jump in to help with any party planning topping off the event by providing her famous Amaretti cookies – that no one could resist. She was vibrant, generous, kind, and elegant. Her love ran deep; her laughter was contagious. She will be dearly missed.
