The day was established in 2021, in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.

The federal statutory holiday honours Survivors, their families, and communities, and ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.

North Bay City Hall and other administrative offices and facilities will be closed Tuesday, along with the Waste Diversion Facility off Station Road.

City transit is following its regular schedule Tuesday and there will be garbage and recycling collection.

Officials say in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the city will raise the ‘Every Child Matters’ flag today in Leger Square, outside of city hall.

On Tuesday, an “Every Child Matters walk” is taking place at 10 am from Lee Park to the Kiwanis Bandshell.

It’s presented by the North Bay Indigenous Friendship Center, the North Bay Indigenous Hub and Anishinabek Nation.

There will be lunch, cultural demonstrations and more.

Also on Tuesday, Country 90.5 FM and 106.3 Jet FM are proud to participate in A DAY TO LISTEN 2025 in partnership with the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund.

On Sept. 30, the National Day for truth and Reconciliation, radio stations across Canada will come together to amplify Indigenous voices.
