Mason, Donald

1942-2026

Donald passed away at Northern Heights Community Care on Friday January 16th, 2026. He was the beloved husband of almost 60 years to Gail Mason (nee McNulty). Dear father of Shivon (Barry Konink), Jennifer (Brett Hryb) and Megan Mason. He will be sadly missed by his five grandchildren Sarah (Derek Lister), Emily Hryb, Noah Konink (Michaela), Mason Hryb and Robert Stephenson (Vicki) along with three great grandchildren Brady, Billy and Johnny. Survived by his siblings Bryan (Susan) and predeceased by siblings Cecil (Joan), Joy (Mike McCahery), Phyllis Woito and Marlene (Maurice Dufresne).

Don was a long-time employee of Boart Longyear and was fortunate to retire in his early 50’s.  He was an avid traveller and he and Gail enjoyed exploring new places around the world.  On weekends Don could often be found going to yard sales or, in the morning, sharing coffee and conversation with their McDonalds group.  Don loved sports and in his younger years was an exceptionally skilled softball pitcher.

His family will miss him greatly but have comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering.  We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the amazing staff at Northern Heights (Ruby Road) for their care and compassion.  A special thanks to Dr. Jinnah and Dr. Herst for their kindness and dedication and Dr. Carter who cared for Don when he first received his diagnosis of multiple myeloma.

As per his wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering to be held at a later date.
