Matthew James Vigars

Matthew James Vigars

March 23, 1994 – February 23, 2025

With shattered hearts, we sadly announce the tragic and premature passing of our beloved Matthew James Vigars on February 23, 2025. Matty was a son, grandson, brother, stepbrother, cousin, nephew, and friend whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and light into the lives of so many.

Born on March 23, 1994, Matt was a bright and gifted soul who was intelligent, articulate, funny, and deeply caring. He had a natural athleticism and a sharp wit that made him unforgettable to those who knew him. His love for sports and competition was a defining part of his life, and he carried that passion with him always.

He was the first born and cherished son of Jim Vigars (Jennifer) and Tracey Vigars and a big brother to Joshua Vigars (predeceased) and Andrew Vigars. Stepbrother to Misha Robichaud. Matthew was the firstborn, highly anticipated grandson of John and Mary Ann Vigars of St. Thomas. He quickly became the “anointed one” and was the light of their life. Matthew was also the beloved grandson to Michael and the late Beverly Narozanski of Manitoulin Island. Matthew had a lifelong and close bond with his childhood caregiver and biggest supporter Elizabeth Kerrigan, aka Bet Bet.

Left to grieve Matthew’s untimely passing are aunts and uncles; John Vigars (Heather), Bob Vigars (Sharon), Kimberly Narozanski (Vicki), Kenny Narozanski (Linda), Christopher Narozanski (Michelle), Jody Narozanski, Stephen Narozanski (Martha) and Joyanne Rocca (Dario). Matthew was also the fun-loving cousin to: Sarah and Mark, Joshua and Jacob, Dylan and Nicholas, Ryan and Austin, Lola and Brandy (deceased). Jack and Olivia, Josh and Kris.

Matthew was a precocious, vibrant, energetic, and beautiful child who could light up a room. He excelled academically, athletically and certainly made his teachers earn their salaries. As an adolescent, Matthew was adventuresome, fearless, and always defying gravity doing flips on a skateboard, snowboard, or any into body of water. Matthew was very social with strong leadership qualities and enjoyed having fun with his high school and athletic buddies. He enjoyed being the life of the party. Matthew was a loving child to his parents Jim and Tracey. He brought great joy and equally as many challenges that we navigated with much assistance throughout the years.

During his late teen years, Matthew unfortunately started to experiment with drugs which eventually evolved into an all-consuming drug addiction. Over the years, he fiercely battled this addiction with the support of his friends, family, and professional help. Unfortunately, as all too often in today’s world, Matthew was unable to defeat this demon and eventually succumbed to his addiction.

Matthew will be remembered as a unique and memorable individual. His goal at one point in life was to attend law school and become a lawyer. This would have been perfect for Matt as he has all the characteristics of an exceptional defence lawyer and could argue his way out of any situation, leaving victorious.

We will choose to remember the good times with Matthew as the loving, intelligent, vibrant, humorous young man he was when he was healthy and well. He will forever be in our hearts and his passing has left an unfillable void to all who loved him. Until we meet again our beautiful boy.

A Private Celebration of Life will be held in Matthew’s memory.
