Mayor looking to Honour Coach Turcotte

Mayor looking to Honour Coach Turcotte

Part of North Bay’s new community and recreation centre could soon have a name attached to it.

Mayor Peter Chirico announced at Tuesday night’s council meeting he intends to bring forward a motion at the next meeting.

“That council consider a possible naming of the new community and recreation centre, or a portion thereof, in memory of Don ‘Butch’ Turcotte, who passed away earlier this year,” he says. “That will be a decision of council into the new year.”

Turcotte, a hockey innovator and coach, was inducted to the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame in 1992.  Construction on the new Lakeshore Drive facility, which will include two ice pads, officially got started with a groundbreaking last week.

The next council meeting isn’t scheduled until mid-January.
