Mayor’s race grows to three in North Bay
Another current city council member is now seeking the mayor’s chair in North Bay.
Deputy Mayor Maggie Horsfield has filed her nomination papers.
Councillor Jamie Lowery is also seeking the city’s top job, along with Connor Currie.
As of Wednesday morning, the city’s website shows five newcomers are seeking councillor seats.
Based on the number of candidates who ran in the past two elections, we’ll likely see a flurry of nominations over next four weeks.
The 2022 campaign saw three people run for mayor and 29 for councillor seats.
Four years earlier, five people wanted to be mayor and 26 ran for councillor spots.
In terms of school board trustee positions, three people have filed for the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic Board, with two for the Near North Board and one for the French public board.
Candidates have until 2 pm on Aug. 21 to file their nomination papers.
They’ll be certified on Aug. 24.
Election Day is Monday, Oct. 26.
Residents can check online if they’re on the voting list.
