Measles Exposure Locations in North Bay Identified

Measles Exposure Locations Identified in Health Unit District
The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) has received confirmation of measles exposure locations in the district after an individual visited the region on route from Cobden to Timmins. This case is not related to the 11 cases previously reported and is being monitored by Northeastern Public Health.
Individuals who were at the Northgate Shopping Centre (1500 Fisher St., North Bay) or the Ontario Northland Bus Terminal (100 Station Rd, North Bay) on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 3:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. may have been exposed to measles. Ontario health units have also identified exposure risks on specific Northland bus routes that arrived or departed during this timeframe.
The Health Unit has opened a call centre and requests individuals or parents of
children who were exposed and meet the criteria below to call 705-707-1455 as
soon as possible to discuss next steps:
· Infants under 12 months of
age
· Immunocompromised
individuals
· Individuals born after
January 1, 1970, and who are not vaccinated with two doses of an MMR or MMRV
vaccine, or haven’t had measles in the past
· A healthcare worker or
military personnel born in any year who is not vaccinated with two doses of an
MMR or MMRV vaccine
The Health Unit kindly asks that anyone not at the exposure locations during the
time indicated, or who do not meet the criteria, refrain from contacting the
call centre so phone lines can stay open for those more likely to have been
exposed. The call centre will operate based on call volume from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on
Saturday, April 5 and 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6.
Most people born before 1970 are immune to measles. If you are protected against
measles, it is very unlikely that you will develop the disease; however, even
individuals who have immunity should monitor for the following
signs and symptoms:
· fever greater than 38.3
degrees Celsius (oral)
· cough
· runny nose
· red, watery eyes
· small white spots on the
inside of the mouth and throat
· a red blotchy rash that
starts on the face and spreads to the rest of the body.
Individuals who suspect they have measles based on these symptoms, especially those who were exposed, are urged to isolate immediately by staying home and avoiding contact with others. They should get tested and will need to call the clinic or hospital before visiting so appropriate preparations can be made to prevent further spread of the virus.
If you think you have been exposed and live in the:
· Northeastern Public Health
region (formerly Timiskaming Health Unit and Porcupine Health Unit), call
1-877-442-1212
· Renfrew County and
District Health Unit region, call 613-732-3629
· Public Health Sudbury and
Districts region, call 1-866-522-9200
