With a chance to make it a perfect weekend, the Nipissing University Lakers men's volleyball team was back on the court Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers, coming off a five-set win, were hosting the Guelph Gryphons for the second time in as many days.

The Lakers fell short in the final game of the weekend, falling 3-0 (19-25, 21-25, 21-25) to the Gryphons.

In the opening game, Guelph grabbed an early lead, up 13-11 which led to a 25-19 victory to go up 1-0.

In the second, it was much of the same.

The teams exchanged points, but the Gryphons pulled away late and walked away with a 25-21 win to take a strangle hold on the match.

In the third and what turned out to be the final set, the game was tied 6-6 early on, but Guelph pulled away, leading 19-16 late.

From there, a 6-5 run clinched the set and the match for the Gryphons as both teams settled for a weekend split.

Marc Marchand and Trent O'Brien each had six kills to lead the Lakers offence in Saturday's contest.

The Lakers hit the road and take on the Waterloo Warriors next weekend for a pair of matches.
