Michael Dumont

January 14, 1961 – September 20, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Dumont, who died unexpectedly in his sleep on September 20, 2025, at his home in Mattawa, Ontario.
Michael was born on January 14, 1961, to Ernestine and Conrad Dumont, both predeceased, along with his infant sister Sarah. He is survived by his brothers Mark (Rose), Paul (Jeanne),
Peter (Theresa), and Carl (Shelley), and was a cherished uncle to Carter, Curtis, Natasha, Evan, Seth, Connor, Brooke, Mia, Austin, and baby Ryder. Michael also shared a lifelong bond with his cousin Steven Lysohirka, who was like a brother. Steven and his partner Karen remain close to the entire Dumont family.
Michael will be remembered for his gentle nature, deep love of the bush, and passion for operating heavy equipment. He adored his nieces and nephews and was devoted to his fiercely loyal chihuahua, Bella, who stood guard after his passing, unwilling to leave his side. Mike began working in the bush as a teenager alongside his father, Conrad. He lived independently, cared deeply for everything he owned, and was always ready to lend a hand. Many in the community knew Mike through his work in the bush—a way of life for young men and their fathers in the area. He’d start the week with his usual grumbles, but by Thursday, he was all smiles thinking about payday. Then his dad would say in his thick French accent, “Maybe we go in for one more load,” and Mike would lose it—ranting like
Yosemite Sam, stomping back into the woods in a dramatic fit that still brings laughter to those who knew him.
Mike deeply valued family and loyalty. He believed in hard work, self-reliance, and showing up for others. He faced health challenges with resilience and dignity, living with diabetes for many years.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Brian Williams and Mike’s home care workers for their compassionate support.
