MICHAEL JAMES GAUTHIER

MICHAEL JAMES GAUTHIER

1948-2026

The family announces with great sadness the untimely sudden death of our beloved Mike on February 15, 2026.

Born in Penetanguishene on March 17 1948 to Gertrude (Brasseur) and Henry Gauthier, Mike was the cherished husband of 55 years to Louise, a loving father to his daughters Josée (Steve) and Alyssa (Wes), a proud grandfather of Caleb (Robyn), Gabriel, Mahdabiin (Aden), Nakia, Samuel and Elianna. He is survived by his sisters Pat and Nan and his brothers Tim, Charles and Pierre (Donna) and Louise’s siblings Janine (Don), Richard (Renée) and Norm (Kathleen). He was predeceased by his brothers Bryan (Joan), John (Micheline) and his sister Marlene.

He made his mark in the community through extensive board work and service club memberships including Nipissing Kiwanis Club and Club Richelieu of North Bay and Sturgeon Falls. He brought his strong organizational skills and financial expertise everywhere he went and he was instrumental in securing funding for several projects for the betterment of the community.

He had a notable career in the financial sector as well as post-secondary education appointments at Canadore College and Nipissing University.

He was an avid golfer and curler after being a strong participant in various sports during his high school years. He faithfully cheered for the Maple Leafs, the Blue Jays and the Argonauts.

He loved antiquing day trips, camping trips to the Maritimes with his family and trips to a warmer climate. But what he enjoyed most of all over the last twenty-two years were campfires on the beach and Lake Nipissing sunsets; life was always better at the lake…

He will be forever remembered for his love of family, his commitment to his community and for his ongoing efforts to make the world a better place.

The family will receive family and friends at Hillside Funeral Services, 362 Airport Road, North Bay on Friday February 27th from 1-4 and 6:30-8:30pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Paroisse Sacré Coeur, Main Street Sturgeon Falls at 10 o’clock on Saturday February 28th.

Donations to Paroisse Sacré-Coeur or the Sturgeon Falls Curling Club Renovation Fund in his memory will be gratefully accepted.
