Mining Week 2024
Over 800 North Bay and area elementary students will be taking part in virtual mining matters workshops this month.
It’s part of CIM Mining Week 2024, which takes place Nov. 11-15.
“The goal of bringing Mining Matters into local elementary schools is to generate mining industry awareness,” says Shayn Knapp, chair of the North Bay Mining Week Planning Committee. “This includes the importance of mining in the use of everyday items, the environmental aspects involved with the industry, and the significance of various geological zones in Northern Ontario.”
The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) Northern Gateway Branch says even though there aren’t any operating mines within city limits, North Bay is an integral part of the mining industry.
In December, high school students will take part in a mine opportunity challenge.
