Mobile Clinic enhancing Healthcare Access
A mobile clinic is hitting the road in Nipissing District.
The Clinical Access Mobile Partnership involves a Mercedes van with a custom clinical interior that officials say will travel to area communities and enhance healthcare services.
Wendy Smith, Executive Director with the Nipissing Wellness Ontario Health Team (OHT) says it can be used for a variety of innovative ideas across the region.
“We’re depending on our partners across the district, from all scopes of practice, from mental health and addictions to primary care, to plan for different activities for the vehicle,” says Smith. “Those organizations will work with community paramedics and OHT to make sure the public are aware.”
Key features include specialized equipment and trained paramedics, with Stephen Kirk, Chief of Paramedic Services in Nipissing, saying it’s a unique, self-sustaining vehicle.
“It’s got solar panel, lithium battery back-up power, onboard Starlink internet Wi-Fi so essentially it has 72-plus hours sustainability without any dependency,” says Kirk. “This allows us to be off the grid in some of the more remote areas of our community to provide these types of services there as well.”
The mobile clinic, which can also serve as a command centre for large medical events, is a partnership between the Nipissing Wellness OHT and District of Nipissing Paramedic Services, through the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board.
