More details on Armed Forces Day expected

By Richard Coffin
We could be getting a closer look at the U.S. Air Force this upcoming Armed Forces Day in the city.
A report coming to council Tuesday evening calls on the mayor to invite several aerial flights and teams to fly over, perform or land at the waterfront. That includes a fly-by of either an American F-16 or F-35 fighter jet.
Landing would be a Chinook helicopter and the Skyhawks parachute team while the Snowbirds and CF-18 demonstration team (pictured above) would put on performances.
Another fly-by includes a Canadian Hercules aircraft.
A couple of public presentations, from the Canadian Cancer Society and Nick’s Place, kick off Tuesday night’s council meeting.
Reports include one about Canada Day with activities, entertainment and fireworks lined up, and awarding a contract to replace the Aquatic Centre pool deck flooring.
A councillor motion, if supported, would nominate MPP Vic Fedeli for the 2025 Federation of Northern Ontario (FONOM) Executive award.
