NBMCA recognizes Treaties Recognition Week
It is Treaties Recognition Week in Ontario (Nov. 5-11)
Who are treaty people? Many people think of treaty rights as “special” Indigenous rights however, all people living in Canada are treaty people with their own set of rights and responsibilities. NBMCA acknowledges that in fulfilling our responsibilities in watershed management, we work in the 1850 Robinson-Huron Treaty territory, the traditional territory of the Nbisiing Anishinabek, as well as the unceded and ancestral traditional territory of the Algonquin People and the Metis Nation. As shared stewards of Ontario’s land and water resources – along with these First Nations communities – the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority appreciates and respects the history and diversity of the land and its peoples.
