NBMCA says 40-60 mm of rain fell Monday night in some areas
Monday night’s downpour has prompted a water safety statement from the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA).
“Thunderstorms on July 27, produced 40 to 60 mm of rainfall across portions of the North Bay-Mattawa watershed,” says Githan Kattera, NBMCA Flood Duty Officer. “As a result, water levels and flows in many rivers and creeks increased and have generally reached their peak. Water levels are expected to recede across most of the watershed.”
Officials also say water levels on Chippewa Creek climbed to 1.45 meters in an hour and 20 minutes.
They say although levels are stabilizing, watershed conditions remain sensitive, and many areas remain vulnerable following the recent rainfall.
This message will be in effect until Thursday, July 30 at 4:00 PM.
