Near North Board subject of Provincial Review

A provincial review into governance and leadership practices at the Near North District School Board (NNDSB) is underway.
A letter sent late last month from Education Minister Paul Calandra to board chair Ashley St. Pierre is listed in the correspondence for Tuesday night’s board meeting.
He says a reviewer was appointed to focus on:
1. The performance of the members of the board and the Director of Education with respect to their duties under the Education Act or any other Act, or under any policy, guideline, directive or regulation made under those Acts.
2. The performance of the board in appropriately dealing with issues that have arisen, including but not limited to:
- Allegations of operational mismanagement which have resulted in significant delays in the opening of the new K-12 school in Parry Sound
- board leadership and issues of governance
3. Any other relevant issues that arise during the review.
Calandra says along with collecting and going over board policies/communications, the reviewer may meet with the Board of Trustees, the Director of Education, board staff, parents and members of the community, and other individuals deemed necessary.
“I expect that you will do all that is necessary to help the Reviewer complete their work,” he writes in the letter.
A final report will be submitted by the end of September.
