New Community and Recreation Centre still on target for August completion
‘On budget and on time’.
That’s the update from city staff on the new Community and Recreation Centre being built on Lakeshore Drive, with the substantial completion date still this August.
A report coming to council’s committee meeting Tuesday evening also says work on the rink floors and landscaping is taking place this month, with interior fit-out, further landscaping and commissioning next month and July.

Meantime, officials say the U.S. tariff risk to the project budget is substantially retired.
“The project team’s proactive measures to mitigate tariff charges have so far been successful with no tariff-related costs incurred to date,” states the report.
About half of the million-dollar contingency budget tied to the $63 million project has been spent.
The new zero-carbon facility will feature two new ice pads, a walking track, a large community room, 14 dressing rooms, and over 400 parking spaces.
Below is a look back at construction since the groundbreaking in Dec. 2024.
