Nipissing announces five honorary degree recipients
Five honorary degrees are being bestowed by Nipissing University at next week’s convocation ceremonies.
Recipients include former MP and Speaker of the House of Commons Anthony Rota, Olympic medalist in cross-country skiing Beckie Scott, former CTV News national anchor Lisa LaFlamme, former Chief Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice Lise Maisonneuve, and former Executive Director of the Canadian Wood Council’s ‘Ontario Wood WORKS!’ program Marianne Berube.
Nipissing says recipients are selected for their noteworthy contributions to the University, their respective fields, and broader impact on society.

“Nipissing University is proud to honour this outstanding group of leaders and to welcome them into the Lakers community,” says Dr. Kevin Wamsley, President and Vice-Chancellor. “Their meaningful contributions to their fields and society at large are a powerful reminder of the impact individuals can make. We look forward to their Convocation remarks as they share their wisdom and inspire the Class of 2026 as they begin their next chapter.”
Convocation ceremonies will take place June 8 to 10, 2026 at the R.J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre.
More than 1,000 students will cross the stage and graduate next week.
