A community initiative to support local animal rescues and pets in need is being led by students in the Gender Equality and Social Justice program’s Pets class at Nipissing University.

The Paws for Cause Pet Food and Fund Drive aims to gather essential supplies and donations for Shady Acres Feral Cat Rescue and All Heart Pet Rescue.

“The idea for Paws for Cause was born out of our class’s shared passion for animals and making a positive difference in the community,” says Madi Irvine, Paws for Cause student leader. “We invite members of the community to contribute to the cause in any way they can to show their support and compassion for rescued pets and the organizations who are caring for them.”

Throughout the month of November, the Paws for Cause team will be seeking donations of dog and cat food, liver-based dog treats, pet accessories, pet toys, cleaning supplies, carriers, and large pee pads

Donation bins can be found at Giant Tiger Lakeshore, No Frills Lakeshore, Foodland Callander, Astorville Freshmart, Lisa’s Doghouse, the Northgate Shopping Centre and in the front foyer of Nipissing University.

GoFundMe page has also been set up with monetary donations supporting Shady Acres and All Health Pet Rescue.

Two other events held earlier this month as a part of the campaign included a community dog walk and a trivia night.
