Nipissing University Lakers Heading to National Championship

History was made amid the flurries on Sunday afternoon at the Nipissing University turf field.

The Lakers women’s soccer team scored a 2-1 win over York in their semifinal matchup, to  earn a berth in the OUA final and the USports National Championship.

Bella Nolte scored the Lakers’ first goal, in the 42nd minute of the first half.

In the second half, the Lions tied the game just three minutes in before Cassidy Brooks chipped a bouncing ball into the top of the net late in the game, to give Nipissing the 2-1 lead.

The Lakers travel to Ottawa to play the Gee-Gees in the OUA final on Saturday (Nov. 2)  before heading to the USports National Championship in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
