NOJHL names 3 Stars of the Week
The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that forward Henry Ouellet (Hearst Lumberjacks), goaltender Matthew Vahramian (Greater Sudbury Cubs) and forward Justin Rousseau (Powassan Voodoos) have been named its BrokerLink Insurance 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Oct. 27.
Justin Rousseau, (F) Powassan Voodoos: Helping pace Powassan offensively, Rousseau registered five points for his club, aiding in a couple of Voodoos victories.
Assisting on a shorthanded marker in a narrow result over French River, he then had a career-best two tally game at Kirkland Lake and doled out a pair of assists, including one on the game-winner, in a victory at Kirkland Lake.
Hailing from Verner, Ont., Rousseau, 19, has already surpassed his goal total from a year ago and needs just two more points to achieve a personal high in that category.
Henry Ouellet, (F) Hearst Lumberjacks: Collecting a NOJHL-high six points last week, Ouellet was instrumental in a pair Lumberjacks victories.
The 18-year-old from St-Alexandre, Que., scored in each contest he played and dished out four solid assists, including setting up a late game-winner Sunday, helping Hearst reach the 10-win plateau on the campaign.
Skating in his first season in the league, Ouellet is averaging over a point-per-game with 16 in 11 outings on six tallies and 10 helpers.
Matthew Vahramian, (G) Greater Sudbury Cubs: Getting a start at the Soo Eagles on Saturday, the 18-year-old Owen Sound, Ont., product was impressive in a road victory.
Vahramian saw 50 shots fired his way, and turned aside 49 of them, which was the most saves of any NOJHL netminder in a single game so far this season, in an eventual 3-1 victory.
Having gone 6-0-0-0 in six starts for the Cubs, he now leads all league stoppers in goals-against average at 1.96 and has moved into a tie for third overall in save percentage at .929.
