NORAD Tracks Santa marking 70th anniversary
Local military members are checking their lists and systems twice as they get ready for Santa’s flight across Canada on Christmas Eve.
Officials with 21 Aerospace Control and Warning Squadron at 22 Wing North Bay say they’ll be ready to detect, identify, and escort the jolly elf as he enters Canadian airspace and makes his festive journey.
It’s going to be a full circle moment for Lt. Hillary Hamilton, Weapons Director.
“It’s my first time tracking Santa here in North Bay,” she says. “I used NORAD Tracks Santa, all the websites and the trackers when I was younger, so it’s cool to finally be on the other end and finally helping out.”
There are plenty of ways for kids to follow along on Christmas Eve, including noradsanta.org which goes live on Monday (Dec. 1).
“The website offers a daily countdown clock, new games, videos, holiday activities and information about NORAD holiday traditions around the world,” says Lt. Hamilton. “We offer a desktop and mobile site as well as mobile apps that are available through the Apple App Store or Google Play.”
This is the 70th anniversary of NORAD Tracks Santa.
