North Bay Film Festival Starts

North Bay Film Festival starts with free screening and workshop By Richard Coffin

The curtain rises on the North Bay Film Festival at noon on Friday at the Capitol Centre.

Officials say the first offering is a free screening of Sing Sing, an inspiring story about the transformative power of art within the prison system.

That’s followed by a free animation workshop (3 pm to 5:30 pm) by industry veterans Aron Dunn and Matt Lyon from Lakeside Animation Studios. Drawing skills are not required.

The Opening Night Gala is at 6:30 pm with a screening of the first two episodes of The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal.

Afterwards, Bryn Hughes, the film’s producer, will be participating in a Question-and-Answer session, plus there’s a gala reception.

The festival continues Saturday and Sunday with international, Canadian, and local films along with filmmaker Q&As, panel discussions, receptions, workshops, and industry events.
