North Bay Police Acts on Downtown Vandalism to Protect Community Spaces

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) has identified and charged a local man responsible for multiple incidents of vandalism in the downtown core.

The accused, Anthony Straiton, 43-year-old, male, of North Bay, has been charged with the following offences:

  • One Count of Mischief Under $5,000 (The Corporation of the City of North Bay)
  • One Count of Mischief Under $5,000 (Cheapskates Sporting Goods)
  • One Count of Mischief Under $5,000 (Toronto Dominion Canada Trust Bank)

Between April 29, 2025 and September 14, 2025, the accused attended multiple locations in the downtown core of North Bay, spray-painting store fronts, garbage cans, sidewalks, building walls, and doors on at least 13 separate occasions.

Graffiti and vandalism deface public spaces and create significant costs for local businesses and the City of North Bay. Maintaining a cleaner and safer downtown is essential for everyone’s safety and enjoyment, which includes holding those who damage our community accountable. With the help of effective video surveillance, the NBPS was able to identify the accused and will continue to actively monitor, investigate, and address similar incidents to ensure a vibrant and safe community.

"We’re out in the downtown core every day, and we take pride in making our community spaces cleaner and safer," says Insp. McFarlane. "We want to support our hardworking local business owners and reduce unnecessary damage to public spaces. By maintaining well-kept, welcoming areas, we also help deter criminal activity, and we’ll continue holding those responsible accountable."

The accused was arrested and later released on an Undertaking with a court date of December 16, 2025.
